The slow food movement is gaining ground

I've almost finished listening to Barbara Kingsolver's "Animal Vegetable, Miracle" audio book. I have greatly enjoyed this book. It's full of stories, anecdotes, facts about the food industry and lots of humor. Another book just out is Michael Pollan's "In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto". Another book about the dismal state of food in the USA.

Both Kingsolver and Polland advocate getting back to traditional ways of growing and eating food. Lots of vegetables and fruits and cooking from scratch as much as possible. Cooking and eating together as a family is highly recommended. As the health of Americans continues to get worse this seems like a good idea. This may be the next big movement in this country. Just like the ban of smoking in public places, we could see big changes in the food industry.
